Conservation

The art conservation institute has more 30 years of experience of art conservatioon. The conservation insitute was build by the Finnish government especially for the needs of the Orthodox church. The institute offers services for all kinds of customers - Lutheran parishes, museums, organizations and private persons.
The conservation institute has specialized in icon conservation, but all kinds of damaged artwork, painted on wood or canvas, are conserved. Conservation means, as the word says, that the goal is  to preserve and make sure that the artwork remains in as pristine a condition as possible.

The conservation services of Valamo monastery include conditions reports, possibly conservation plan and the conservation of the artwork. The art conservation institute also provides condition checks before exhibitions, x-ray imaging and instructions about storaging, hanging and maintenance.

The art conservation institute has arranged several international conferences on icon conservation over the years and it acts also as a training place of art conservation students.
