Course description

Humans are spiritual beings by nature. However, this dimension is often overlooked in modern society, leaving people's spiritual development incomplete. Much of the richness and joy of life is then missing. Thus, happiness often turns self-centered and ultimately does not feel satisfying or sufficient. Spirituality in humans manifests itself as the need to find meanings in their lives that are greater than themselves. It strengthens various emotions and attitudes, such as gratitude, wonder, compassion and forgiveness. It opens up experiences of connection and unity with other people, nature and the surrounding world. The spiritual dimension in humans asks what is ultimately good and bad, beautiful, true and what is worth dedicating one's own unique life to. A spiritual person experiences love as greater than a mere relationship of affection. Art, philosophy and various religions also express this human spirituality. The course introduces the ideas and theories presented in philosophy, psychology and theology about the spiritual dimension of man. Participants have the opportunity to stop and reflect on their own experience and themselves to explore how spirituality manifests itself in their own lives and how it could enrich their own lives. With the help of various tasks and joint interaction, it is possible to outline what spiritual growth means to me. This can also strengthen the direction of what I want to spend my own unique life on. Anyone interested in the course can participate based on their own values and life situation. Each participant can share their own reflections with the group to the extent that it feels natural. The most important thing is the ability to respect and appreciate the different experiences and thoughts of other people. Working together in a warm and compassionate atmosphere is the most inspiring. This way, the group can also embody the themes covered in the course through their own activities. The teacher is philosopher, non-fiction writer and mental health expert Samuel Salovuori.

Teacher

Salovuori Samuel

I am Samuel Salovuori, a philosopher, theologian and non-fiction writer by background. I worked for a long time at Mieli ry in various expert positions. I train, lecture and hold various courses on themes that I have found to be relevant in my own life. By nature, I am humorous, gentle, enthusiastic and enjoy joint reflections. I gain strength from encounters and discussions where everyone gets the opportunity to stop and reflect on their own experience and path. Building a warm and benevolent atmosphere is important to me. There is no need to take pressure from prior knowledge. The most important thing is curiosity, the desire to stop and the ability to listen to yourself and others. Even in a few days, you can realize and discover something new about your own life. Something that makes you look at everyday life and yourself in a new way.
