Easter at the Monastery

Easter at the Monastery

The great feasts of the church year bring many pilgrims and guests fond of the Valamo atmosphere to Valamo every year. The peaceful atmosphere, atmospheric festive services, and the monastery abbot's reception create the best possible setting for celebrating the holidays.

Easter, or the Feast of Christ's Resurrection, is the main feast of the Orthodox church year, the feast of feasts. Palm Sunday immediately after Great Lent begins the Great Week preceding Easter. Among the highlights of the Easter period is the festive divine service on the night before Easter Sunday.

According to Orthodox tradition, fasting continues until Easter night, which has been taken into account in the composition of the meals.
