Easter at the monastery

Easter at the monastery

The great feasts of the church year bring a large number of pilgrims and guests who are fond of the Valamo atmosphere to Valamo every year. The peaceful atmosphere, atmospheric festive services and the reception by the monastery abbot create the best setting for celebrating the holidays.

Easter, or the feast of the Resurrection of Christ, is the main feast of the Orthodox church year, a feast of feasts. Palm Sunday begins the Great Week preceding Easter immediately after Great Lent. The highlights of the Easter period include the festive service on the night before Easter Sunday.

According to Orthodox tradition, fasting continues until Easter night, which is taken into account in the composition of the meals.
