Valamo Monastery cherishes cultural diversity

The cultural center offers, among other things, exhibition spaces for the monastery's historical artifacts and temporary exhibitions. The Valamo Monastery Library, specializing in Orthodox culture and theology, serves not only the brotherhood, researchers and students, but also all guests of the monastery and those in need of information. The Valamo residency offers artists a bridge between everyday life and inspiration. The monastery's natural silence and simplicity provide a counterweight to a society driven by the ethos of performance and consumption. Our residency gives you space to think and time to create something new. Or to complete something unfinished.

Valaam Monastery Archives

One of the greatest treasures of the Valamo Monastery is its extensive archive. The monastery's archive has continued to operate in New Valamo since 1941.

Community center

The Valamo Cultural Centre provides facilities for a wide range of activities. The cultural centre houses exhibition and conference facilities, a library and an archive.

The Valamo residency wants to offer artists a bridge between everyday life and inspiration.

The Valamo Monastery Library is a special library that serves the monastery's brotherhood, college, staff, as well as the monastery's guests, researchers, students and other information seekers.

Monastery Museum

The monastery museum presents the history of the monastery and ecclesiastical artifacts.

"The Valamo Monastery has traditionally been engaged in cultural activities. The old monastery was known as a peasant monastery, but the brotherhood's workshops painted icons, practiced photography and bookbinding. Manuscripts were copied in the cloisters. The Valamo Monastery began publishing printed books as early as the 1860s."
