Monastery

Center for Orthodox Culture

The brotherhood of the Valamo Monastery lives a spiritual community life, based on the ascetic heritage of the Orthodox Church. According to ancient tradition, the monastery must support itself. Today, Valamo's main source of income is tourism: the monastery receives over 100,000 visitors annually, and all the income from tourism is used directly for the maintenance and development of the monastery. You can come for a day visit or stay overnight all year round.

The monastery is home to a brotherhood that competes there. For its visitors, Valamo offers experiences in an environment that cannot be compared anywhere else. Many come to the monastery to find peace and to participate in its daily worship life. At least as many come to the monastery to relax by walking in nature, spend time with family and friends, or learn new skills at the Valamo Folk High School courses. The monastery is also a popular venue for celebrations, meetings, and seminars.

"We warmly welcome all guests, regardless of their beliefs, to the monastery and its services."

Warmly greetings,
Valamo Brotherhood
