Monastery

Center of Orthodox Culture

The brotherhood of Valamo Monastery lives a spiritual communal life based on the ascetic tradition of the Orthodox Church. According to ancient tradition, the monastery must support itself. Today, tourism is Valamo's main livelihood. The monastery receives over 100,000 visitors annually, and all tourism revenue is used directly for the monastery's maintenance and development. Guests can come for a day visit or to stay overnight year-round.

The monastery is home to the striving brotherhood. For its visitors, Valamo offers experiences in an environment unlike anywhere else. Many come to the monastery to find peace and participate in its daily divine services. At least as many come to the monastery to relax by engaging with nature, spend time with family and friends, or learn new skills at Valamo Folk High School courses. The monastery is also a popular venue for celebrations, meetings, and seminars.

"We warmly welcome all guests to the monastery and its divine services, regardless of their beliefs."

Warmly,
Valamo's brotherhood
