The monastery's most popular walking route leads the walker to the adoring cross called the Traveler's Cross, which the brotherhood erected on the shore of Lake Juojärvi in the late 1980s.

The approximately four-kilometer route winds through varied landscapes, partly following the shore of the lake. Along the way, there is also a lean-to where you can stop for a snack or a barbecue. The Pilgrim's Path, which is slightly longer than the Traveler's Cross Path, takes you deeper into the monastery's forests and also ends in the Traveler's Cross area, from where you can return along the Traveler's Cross Path.

Another signposted route takes you from the monastery cemetery to an atmospheric prayer forest. The Mittaa trail is about three kilometers long in total. Upon arrival, a small hermitage with prayer books and icons, as well as the tsasuna of Saint Seraphim of Sarov, awaits the traveler. Those who want a longer walking route can choose the 20-kilometer monastery hiking trail that leads from Valamo to the Lintula nunnery. The signposted route partly runs along narrow forest paths, so it is worth equipping yourself with good walking shoes. For example, the hut found along the route or the Taivallahti canal are suitable places for a snack break.

The monastery is also surrounded by many outdoor trails. You can inquire at the monastery reception about the possibility of borrowing bicycles in the summer or snowshoes in the winter.

"Several marked walking routes can be found in the monastery’s surrounding area. The most popular circular walk takes you to the pilgrim’s wooden cross which is located by Lake Juojärvi. "
