Course description

It is of great importance what we expose ourselves and our senses to. Our senses need rest in order to maintain the sensitivity to recognize beauty and cherish it. The understanding and acceptance that grows in silence helps us to see the beauty that lies beneath (apparent) shadows. Our senses and souls receive rest and nourishment. During the course, we will also learn about the meaning of fasting and hesychasm (silent prayer of the heart). We prepare for the upcoming feast of the Lord's Resurrection. During the course, we will paint with watercolors using the wet-on-wet technique, using non-toxic, liquid watercolors, whose brilliant pigment brings joy to the painting. No previous experience in painting is necessary, instruction in the technique will be given during the course. Those who have been painting for a longer time are welcome to deepen their painting. Material fee 40 €/participant. The course begins on 25.3. The previous night's accommodation is included in the course price, any meals will be paid for at Trapesa at normal prices. Teachers are painter Susanna Maria Kivistö. Church life is led by Valamo College teacher TT Juha Riikonen

Teacher

Kivistö Susanna Maria

Susanna Maria Kivistö is an artist, art educator and spiritual growth instructor, for whom art is a way to explore humanity, nature, the existence of the entire universe and different levels of consciousness.

She is inspired by the boundlessness and freedom of art and the opportunity for inner transformation offered by the art process. “Art is a free space to play, to wonder with curiosity, as if seeing everything for the first time. When we surrender to the art process, we can find new possibilities, transform stagnant energy into flowing energy. Art is joy and comfort.”

Her pedagogical final theses dealt with the art process and the importance of spiritual development for an artist and art teacher. “We are often aware of the injustices in this world, we need courage to face our own shadows, so that our light also creates peace in the world.”

Susanna Maria lives and works at the Järvilinna Art Center in Laukaa. You can find her website at www.susannamaria.com.
