Course description

THE COURSE IS CURRENTLY FULL. WE ARE ACCEPTING REGISTRATION FOR RESERVATIONS.

The course will introduce you to the technique and practice of ringing church bells and the duties of an altar boy or ponomar in various church services. The course is intended for paid and volunteer employees of parishes who assist in church services, as well as anyone interested in the subject. The course begins on April 10th, the previous night's accommodation is included in the course price, any meals on April 9th will be paid at Trapesa at normal prices. The teachers are musician Vladimir Belov and caretaker Eero Hyvärinen, as well as a member of the Valamo Monastery. The course is supported by the Orthodox Church of Finland.

Special price €150/OH1 and €130/person. /OH2 including tuition, accommodation and meals according to the program. No other discounts.

06.00 Easter moment and morning service. Liturgy. Procession around the church.

07.30 Breakfast

09.00 Course opening. Introduction and course objectives. Basics of bell ringing. History of bell ringing. Getting to know the Valamo bell tower. Vladimir Belov. 11.30 Lunch 13.00 Basics continue. Ponomar's tasks. Agreeing on shifts. Break (own-expenses paid coffee). 35.30 Practical bell ringing exercises in two groups. 18.00 Easter time and evening service 19.00 Evening meal.

Bright Saturday 11.4.

06.00 Easter hour, morning service and the liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Procession of the Cross around the church.

07.30- Breakfast

09.00 Videos related to the bell ringing. Musical rhythm and notation.

10.45 Practical exercises in two groups.

12.00 Easter prayer service

12.30 Lunch

13.00 Practical exercises continue in groups.

15.30 Ponomari in the liturgy and vigil/bell ringing in groups.

18.00 Vigil

19.30 Evening meal

09.00 III moment and liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Panagia.

11.00 Possibility to ring the bells after the liturgy.

11.30 Lunch and closing discussion in the Trapesa.

13.00 Possibility to go to Lintula to ring the bells under the guidance of a teacher. However, this is no longer part of the actual course program.
