Course description

The course is intended for people who have attended the Valamo Institute's course for beginners, or for those with similar knowledge and skills. The Lord's Forerunner, John the Baptist, is an inseparable part of the Deisis intercessory icon group, along with Christ and the Mother of God. This course, timed to coincide with his feast day – Midsummer – will paint a simple John, cut to the shoulders. The course is a great opportunity to paint an icon of the namesake saint for Juhi, Hannu, Johannek and Jussi, whose heavenly intercessor is John the Baptist. The course will delve into the painting of faces and hair, as well as the tradition of depicting the Forerunner in terms of icon theology. You will receive an icon base and model at the beginning of the course. You can also purchase other tools and materials needed for the course from the Institute. Please note that people under 35 years of age receive a 40 percent discount on the price of icon painting courses. The teacher is icon painter Sofia Williams.
