Course description

The course seeks perspective and direction for one's life, searching for a deeper meaning for life. In the method, one becomes silent in one's inner world in the form of short and carefully structured writing tasks. All work is done for oneself, in one's own silence. This is not a goal-oriented therapy, but rather seeking contact with oneself. The course increases self-awareness and responsibility for one's own life. Many have found new life energy and valuable insights through the method. Dreams also become more vivid. It is not so much about intellectual insight as about experiencing things that have happened in a new way. The course is suitable for anyone who is interested in exploring oneself and life through writing. Participants are not required to have prior knowledge of the method. Writing skills are sufficient. In longer exercises, light walking is recommended to refresh the dream, imagery and writing work. The course begins on August 4th, the previous night's accommodation is included in the course price, any meals on August 3rd will be paid for at Trapesa at normal prices. The course instructor is Päivi Kosonen, a literary therapist and docent in literary studies who is familiar with diary methods. For more information, visit www.ajatusmatka.fi

Teacher

Kosonen Päivi

I am Päivi Kosonen's literature therapist and a literature therapy trainer for the Finnish Literature Therapy Association.

I am a docent in literary studies and have worked in the teaching and research of literature. I am currently involved in the Academy of Finland's cancer narrative research project, where I lead literature groups and workshops for cancer patients and care staff. Autobiographical literature and research into life stories led me to literature therapy. I have worked in literature therapy since 2010: I have led literature therapy growth groups, autobiographical writing groups, diary groups, and reading circles. I also have training in solution-focused individual psychotherapy.

I have led Progoff courses in Turku since 2017 and also remotely during the corona pandemic. I led the course in Valamo in 2023 and 2024.

What I like about Progoff is the meditativeness, gentleness, and comprehensiveness of the method. The method is adaptable to different life situations. It is not a writing exercise, but a process of settling down at your own pace with yourself and your own things, searching for your own words in silence. This is what makes the courses so effective: writing for yourself alongside others.
