The cenotaph of Saints Sergei and Herman will arrive in Valamo on September 9.

The cenotaph, or memorial coffin, of the founders of the Valamo Monastery, Saints Sergei and Herman, will arrive at the Valamo Monastery on Tuesday, September 9th in the morning. The cenotaph will be placed in the so-called winter church of the monastery's main church, which is dedicated to the memory of Saints Sergei and Herman of Valamo. The first prayer service at the cenotaph will be held on Tuesday, September 9th at 12 noon, or as soon as the installation of the cenotaph has been completed. The first prayer service is planned to be recorded and distributed to the monastery's channels later.

The cenotaph will arrive in time for the autumn feast of Saints Sergei and Herman, which will be celebrated on September 11th. At that time, the return of the relics of the saints Sergei and Herman from Novgorod to Valamo is commemorated, and it is also the temple celebration of the monastery's winter church.

The festive vigil is held on Wednesday, September 10, at 6 p.m. On the feast day itself, Thursday, September 11, the blessing of water will be held at 8:15 a.m. and the liturgy at 9 a.m. After the liturgy, a procession around the church will be held. On the evening of the feast day, at 6 p.m., there will be the 9th hour, vespers, and an akathist to the saints Sergei and Herman by the cenotaph.

All of the aforementioned services will be held in the winter church, whose temple celebration is being celebrated and where the cenotaph will be placed. Metropolitan Arseni of Kuopio and Karelia and Bishop Sergei of Hamina, who is acting as Metropolitan of Oulu, will lead the vigil and liturgy of the celebration. Since the winter church is quite small, the entire congregation will probably not be able to fit into the winter church. The doors between the winter church and the main church will be opened completely, and some of the congregation may be on the side of the main church.

Initially, the cenotaph was located in the main church of Valamo, Ladoga, on the site where, according to tradition, the holy fathers Sergei and Herman are buried. Since 1968, it has been located in the Orthodox Church Museum in Riisa, Kuopio.
