Valamo Museum Day 2026 – treasures, stories and traditions
Saturday 16.5. at the Valamo Monastery
Come and spend a sunny spring day surrounded by culture, history and valuable encounters! Valamo Museum Day offers a great opportunity to get to know the monastery's treasures, the fascinating world of collectibles and Orthodox tradition.

10:00 Opening of the day - Metropolitan Arseni
10:15 Antiques, antique: valuables and their evaluation – antique expert Wenzel Hagelstam
Option to have one of your own item evaluated/person. Send a photo of the item in advance to myyntipalvelu@valamo.fi
The items will be evaluated in the hall of the Cultural Center in the order of photo submission until the Moleben. If sending a picture in advance is not possible, the object can be photographed on site. The pictures will also be shown on a screen during the evaluation.

at 1:30 Secrets of the monastery - a surprise item from the treasure trove and its interesting story
at 2:00 Guided tour of the monastery museum and presentation of the Cenotaph of Saints Sergei and Herman
at 15.00 Valamo tea table – tastes and memories, restaurant Trapesan red hall
at 16.00 “Cheap and rare” – centuries of paper icons – Metropolitan Arseni
at 17.00 Panel discussion: the world of collectors – inspiring perspectives and speeches - chaired by Metropolitan Arseni, panelists Irma Korhonen, Juhani Kontkanen and Tapio Mustonen
at 18.00 Opportunity to participate in the vigil service at the monastery at the main church

Do you have an icon, painting or other work of art on wood or canvas whose condition you are concerned about? Come and ask for advice! Art conservator Riikka Köngäs from Papinniemen konservointi Oy will be there to answer your questions and provide expert consultation.
