Teacher

Saatsi Mika

Mika Saatsi is probably the only member of the Finnish Association of Supervisors' STOry who reports that he supervises in Karelian in addition to Finnish and English. Saatsi, who works as an independent supervisor and entrepreneur, had a twenty-year career as the principal of the Kellokoski Hospital School before reorganizing his work patterns. In addition to supervising, this musician, who calls himself a Karelian hipster, has a wide range of work related to the Karelian language and culture. Mika makes and performs Karelian music in the Loimolan Voima, Saatsi & Shemeikka, Bratanat and Tulenlendo bands. He teaches the South Karelian/Suvi Karelian language remotely at the Tuusula College. The Uusi-Suistamo and Gostis podcasts, the Katerina da Miša opassetah suvikarjalua instructional videos and the Suistamo paginua YouTube channel, as well as the audio lectures related to Border Karelian culture, are also part of the language and culture revitalization work. He sings Orthodox church music in the Järvenpää Orthodox Church and serves on the board of the Suistamon Heritage Society. Photo: Suistamon Heritage Society
