Course description

The course is suitable for those who know the basics of icon painting and have already practiced icon painting to some extent. Belief in angels is part of the Christian tradition and is evident in the creed “I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Creator of all things visible and invisible in heaven and on earth”. Angels and other incorporeal forces are these invisible spiritual beings created by God, and they play an important role as mediators – after all, the Greek word ἄγγελος (angelos) originally means messenger. In the course, Michael or Gabriel will be painted as a half-body composition. You can purchase the base and other tools and materials needed for the course from the institute. Please note that those under 35 years of age receive a 40 percent discount on the course price.   Accommodation for the night before the course is included in the course price, and any meals on 13.2. will be paid at Trapesa at normal prices.  The teacher is icon painter Sofia Williams.

This course uses the Epass mobile application as a payment method.

Teacher

Williams Sofia

I am an icon painter and theology student from Helsinki. As a teacher, I am patient and gentle, and in my courses I strive to create an encouraging and warm atmosphere that is easy for even a beginner to enter. In addition to learning the technique, I emphasize a holistic approach to the symbolism and theology of the icon being painted - it is important to understand what we are depicting and why. In addition to actual egg tempera painting, I am very happy to teach gilding.
