Traveling Bookbinding Exhibition - The World of Bookbinding

The World of Bookbinding exhibition presents bookbinding as work, art and hobby. The exhibition has two themes: Finnish classics and an informative exhibition. The idea of the Finnish Classic series is to present the art of bookbinding. The participants have bound Finnish classic novels in the way they have chosen: using traditional methods, creatively, artistically — yet fitting the content of the book and interpreting its content. In the informative section, we want to show what can be done with the means of bookbinding. The exhibition includes historical bindings, various types of modern bindings made with standard or special materials, repaired books, boxes and cases, artist books and creative follies. The World of Bookbinding exhibition has been put together by the Espoo Bookbinding Association. The exhibition features 8 Finnish classics and 35 works participating in the informative exhibition. There are 21 authors involved: professionals working in the field, those who have studied the field and enthusiasts. The exhibition turned out to be truly diverse and “colorful”! We hope that the exhibition will tell about the many possibilities of bookbinding today and inspire new enthusiasts to get involved in bookbinding.
