Course description
COURSE IS FULL, WE ARE ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS FOR WAITING LISTS
The course is suitable for those with basic icon painting skills and who have already painted a few icons. During the course, an analytical replica of our church's spiritual treasure, the wonderworking Konevets Icon of the Mother of God, will be painted. An analytical replica means an approach where we work with historical pigments, the same ones with which the original image was painted. We aim to reconstruct the original image as it was when new. We try to see through overpaintings and damages and capture the intention of the artist who painted the original image. During the course, we will participate in the procession of the Konevets Icon of the Mother of God (by boat or on foot, according to the participant's wishes) and the course concludes on the feast day of the icon. During the course, we will use the institute's pigments, from which we will jointly prepare the colors. The pigment fee is 10 €. We will focus especially on the correct layering of tempera and the building of color areas, color harmony, and the relationship between gold and color. An icon board, made for the course and sized like the original image, will be purchased from the institute; the price will be announced later. Other tools and materials needed for the course can also be purchased from the institute. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. Instructor: icon conservator and painter Antti Narmala.
On this course, the Epassi mobile application can be used as a payment method.
