Course description

In this course we will delve into the traditional icon gilding technique, bolus or polyment gilding. We will learn the entire process from preparing the clay-rabbit glue mixture to handling, decorating and protecting the loose gold. We will also learn how to design and make decorative ornaments by engraving and polishing. The goal is to produce a complete background gilding for the student's next icon. The gilding course is suitable for icon painters of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Supplies and materials can be purchased from the school. Please also note that those under 35 years of age receive a 40 percent discount on the price of the icon painting courses. The course begins on 6.7. Accommodation for the previous night is included in the course price, and any meals on 5.7. will be paid at Trapesa's normal prices. The teacher will be icon painter Sofia Williams.

If you combine this course with 9.7. for the continuing icon painting course starting in 2019, the total price for the two courses is €900, no other usual discounts are granted on this price. People under 35 years of age receive a discount on the normal prices of both courses.

Teacher

Williams Sofia

I am an icon painter and theology student from Helsinki. As a teacher, I am patient and gentle, and in my courses I strive to create an encouraging and warm atmosphere that is easy for even a beginner to enter. In addition to learning the technique, I emphasize a holistic approach to the symbolism and theology of the icon being painted - it is important to understand what we are depicting and why. In addition to actual egg tempera painting, I am very happy to teach gilding.
