Course description

How to paint a temple in three days? What do the walls of Jerusalem look like? What kind of chair is suitable for the Mother of God? What is an attribute? Learn to create icon interiors and cityscapes based on Byzantine examples. Topics include small objects, houses, doors, columns, beds, and thrones. The course is suitable for everyone interested in icon painting. We will practice drawing and painting with tempera colors on practice surfaces. Through the exercises, your eye for color and knowledge of pigments will also develop. Students will collectively compile their own digital learning material. The course has an independent follow-up part that focuses on people, clothing, and the built environment. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. The instructor is icon painter Katariina Koskivaara-Ilmonen.
