Course description

THE COURSE IS CURRENTLY FULL. WE ARE ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS FOR WAITLIST.

The course seeks perspective and direction for one's own life, searching for deeper meaning in life. The method involves withdrawing into one's inner world through short and carefully structured writing assignments. All work is done for oneself, in one's own silence. This is not goal-oriented therapy, but rather seeking contact with one's own self. The course increases self-awareness and responsibility for one's own life. Many have, through this method, discovered new life energy and valuable insights within themselves. Dreams also become more vivid. It is not so much about intellectual realization as it is about experiencing past events in a new way. The course is suitable for everyone interested in exploring themselves and life through writing. Participants are not required to have prior knowledge of the method. Writing skills are sufficient. For longer exercises, light walking is recommended to refresh dream, imagery, and writing work. Course instruction begins on August 4th; accommodation for the previous night is included in the course price, and any meals on August 3rd are paid for at the normal prices at Trapeza. The course instructor, Päivi Kosonen, is a literary therapist specializing in diary methods and a docent of literary science. More information: www.ajatusmatka.fi

Teacher

Kosonen Päivi

I am Päivi Kosonen, a literature therapist and a literature therapy trainer for the Finnish Association for Literature Therapy.

I am an adjunct professor of literature and have worked in literature teaching and research. Currently, I am involved in the Academy of Finland's cancer narrative research project, where I facilitate literature groups and workshops for cancer patients and healthcare staff. Autobiographical literature and the study of life stories led me to literature therapy. I have worked in literature therapy since 2010: I have facilitated literature therapy growth groups, autobiographical writing groups, diary groups, and book clubs. I also have training in solution-focused individual psychotherapy.

I have facilitated Progoff courses in Turku since 2017 and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, also remotely. I have facilitated courses in Valamo since 2023.

What I like about Progoff is its meditative, gentle, and holistic nature. The method adapts to various life situations. It is not about performance-oriented writing, but about settling down at one's own pace with oneself and one's own matters, searching for one's own words from silence. This is the basis of the courses' effectiveness: writing for oneself alongside others.
