Course description

Every person longs for the experience of being valuable, unique, and irreplaceable. Then it is easy to live as oneself, to be brave, open, and to feel life with a full heart. However, various unpleasant experiences in life leave their marks on us. They make us believe that we would not be worthy of connection as our authentic selves. The shame that arises from this is such a powerful emotion that it is often hidden or covered, for example, by performing, avoiding, being understated, competing, or comparing. Shame often leads to the shrinking of one's self. We do not dare to be open and true to other people. We do not dare to feel our emotions, to be creative, sensitive, and to open up to life. Inner loneliness may plague us. We hope that we could form a stronger connection with other people, and at the same time, we fear what will follow from this connection. The barriers to connection are not always in others, but often also within ourselves and in whether we dare to open up to it. In this course, we will pause to consider how shame prevents us from living with a full heart. The course builds a warm, understanding, and joyful attitude towards oneself. At the same time, we will explore how important it is to live in connection with both oneself and others. A person flourishes in a connection where they can live freely as themselves. Then they do not feel detached from other people or the surrounding world. In this course, everyone is the best expert on their own life and may share their experiences only to the extent that it feels good and safe. In a warm and gentle atmosphere, we will outline how to experience more and stronger connection in life. The course includes a short pre-interview by phone, during which participants' wishes and expectations are mapped out. The course begins on October 30, with accommodation for the preceding night included in the course price; any meals on October 29 are paid at the normal prices at Trapesa. The instructor is philosopher, author, and mental health expert Samuel Salovuori. Kirkko ja kaupunki profile

Teacher

Salovuori Samuel

I am Samuel Salovuori, a philosopher, theologian, and non-fiction writer by background. I worked for a long time at Mieli ry in various expert roles. I train, lecture, and hold various courses on themes that I have found personally meaningful in my own life. My personality is humorous, gentle, enthusiastic, and I enjoy shared reflections. I gain strength from encounters and discussions where everyone has the opportunity to pause and reflect on their own experiences and path. Building a warm and benevolent atmosphere is important to me. There's no need to feel pressured about prior knowledge. The most important things are curiosity, a desire to pause, and the ability to listen to oneself and others. Even in a few days, one can gain insights and discover new things in one's life. Something that makes one look at everyday life and oneself in a new way.
