Estonia, Finland and Orthodoxy – shared history and future at Valamo's course in March

The course examines the common roots, cultural commonalities, and future prospects of Orthodoxy in Estonia and Finland in the peaceful environment of Valamo

Valamo Folk High School is organizing a course from 13–15.3.2026, which examines the common roots, development paths, and future prospects of Orthodoxy in Estonia and Finland. “Estonia, Finland and Orthodoxy – shared history and future” gathers those interested in the topic to reflect on the ecclesiastical and cultural interaction of the two countries in the peaceful environment of Valamo.

Through lectures and discussions, perspectives open up to both the past and the future: how Orthodox life has existed in the history of the two countries, and what new paths it can open in the future. The course is suitable for anyone interested in church history, intercultural interaction, or the deeper meanings of Orthodox tradition.

The course includes, among others, Bishop Damaskinos of Haapsalu, Sister Porfyria from Reomäe Monastery, Risto Nordell, Estonian Orthodox Church Friends Association VYS ry, Tuglas Society, and the Singers of John the Theologian.

The course package includes accommodation and meals in addition to teaching. Accommodation options are available in the hotel, Institute Hotel, and guesthouse. Registration ends 28.2.2026.

Valamo Folk High School welcomes all those interested in the topic to a weekend where the shared Orthodox heritage of Estonia and Finland unfolds in a new light.
