Heinäveden Musiikkipäivät — Concert in Valamo Monastery Sat 11.7. at 2:00 PM

The traditional afternoon concert of Heinäveden Musiikkipäivät in Valamo Monastery on Saturday 11.7.26 at 2 PM will open with Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, “Praise to the Immortality of Jesus” (Louange à l’immortalité de Jésus). The work was composed in a prisoner-of-war camp, inspired by the Book of Revelation, and also received its premiere there. In Valamo, the part will be performed by violinist Elias Nyman and pianist Ilmo Ranta.

The concert will also feature César Franck's sonata for violin and piano, as well as premieres, as has become customary in the music festival concerts in Valamo. This year, new compositions by composer Tapio Tuomela based on poems by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa will receive their vocal-guitar version premiere. We will also hear the premiere of a composition based on a poem by Marjo Heiskanen, performed by soprano Iida Antola, who is building an international career in Central Europe, and guitarist Janne Malinen, as well as pianist Ilmo Ranta.
Tapio Tuomela will talk about his compositions at the concert. Iida Antola will also sing French Lieder at the concert, including beloved compositions by Henri Duparc and Louis Aubert.
