Old Masters course will be held in Valamo in February 2026

The course delves into the thinking of Kalle Holmberg and Torsti Lehtinen and their cultural heritage in the peace of Valamo.

Valamo Folk High School is organizing a new cultural course in February 2026, when Old Masters will be held from 27.2.–1.3.2026. The course is dedicated to two significant figures in Finnish cultural life, theatre director Kalle Holmberg and writer, philosopher Torsti Lehtinen, both of whom felt a deep connection to Valamo Monastery and often visited it during their lives.

The course offers an opportunity to explore the thinking, life's work, and spiritual legacy of these masters. Holmberg and Lehtinen were a familiar sight in Valamo: they walked the monastery's paths, participated in services, and engaged in profound discussions about art, faith, and humanity. Their presence and thoughts have left a mark that continues to live in Valamo's spirit and cultural activities.

Course program is built around lectures, discussions, and shared reflections. The aim is to open new perspectives on the masters' work and how their thoughts can inspire people today. The course is suitable for anyone interested in Finnish culture, philosophy, theater, or spiritual seeking – no prior experience is needed.

Participants stay in Valamo's peaceful environment, and the course package includes accommodation and meals in addition to teaching. Accommodation options are available in both hotel-standard alternatives and the monastery's guesthouse.

Registration ends 13.2.2026, and places are limited. Valamo Folk High School invites all friends of culture and thought to a weekend where the legacy of two great masters unfolds in a new way.
