Valamo's Fishing Day Sat 18.4.2026 – fish in theology, music, traps, and on the plate!

Come and experience the peace of Valamo Monastery, where fish is the guest of honor of the day!

The day's program includes inspiring lectures, spiritual perspectives, a fish-themed concert, and a panel discussion.

The day culminates in a fish dinner in Restaurant Trapesa's Red Hall.

The fishing day is led by passionate fishermen, pianist and church musician Pami Karvonen and music journalist Risto Nordell.

Program

10:30 AM Opening of the Day with the theme 'Fish Luck and Stories' pianist and church musician Pami Karvonen and music journalist Risto Nordell

The opening of the day gets an interesting addition with the presence of Oras Tynkkynen, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Green Parliamentary Group. Risto Nordell will interview Tynkkynen. The discussion will move beyond fish to cultural themes as well.

1:30 PM Fish Symbolism in Christian Tradition Archimandrite Mikael, Head of the Monastery, monastery's main church

2:15 PM Smelt - small fish of darkness and Bach's "fishing cantata" musicologist and non-fiction writer Topi Linjama

3:15 PM Monk's Coffee Restaurant Trapesa's Red Hall

4:00 PM Fish Concert - a musical journey in the company of fish, Pami, and Risto
