The great feasts of the church year bring many pilgrims and guests who are fond of the Valamo atmosphere to Valamo every year. Guests can also visit the monastery for day trips during Christmas.
Preparation for Orthodox Christmas begins with the fast starting in mid-November. The pre-feast of Christmas is celebrated from 20.-24.12., the actual Christmas celebration begins on Christmas Day, 25.12., and lasts until New Year's Eve, 31.12.
