Valamo Folk High School divides courses by subject. Icon Academy, Orthodox Faith and Way of Life, handicrafts, life's path, and culture and art. 

The Folk High School provides an opportunity and space to discuss topical, philosophical, and theological themes. Write, draw, paint, learn singing, body care. Experience alone and/or together the nature surrounding the monastery, find contemplation, hike, even sleep in the monastery's forests. Create something inspiring with your hands; paint or embroider an icon, even hammer it from silver or cast it from bronze or weave a chain. Care for the soul, spirit, and body, and feel the empowering spirit of the monastery in everything.

Icon painting is not offered in other educational institutions in Finland. You can progress from beginner to master level, meaning you do not need prior experience in icon painting to attend our courses.
