"Valamo's Bells Ring Peace" – a musical journey into spirituality and domestic landscapes
Valamo Cultural Center, 13.6.2026 at 14:00
The musical experience of summer 2026 arrives in the peace of Valamo Monastery, as the ConAnima® Pro bono concert series visits Heinävesi. The concert Valamo's Bells Ring Peace invites listeners on a profound and touching musical journey, combining the quiet beauty of Arvo Pärt's tintinnabuli style, nature-inspired music, domestic melodies, and spiritual tradition.
The concert features esteemed musicians: Clara Petrozzi (viola) and Sari Blå (piano). Also featured is Riitta Lampi, who will talk about her sister, Nun Kristoduli, and present a short film from the landscapes and memories of Sortavala.
Program
Part I – music of silence and nature
The concert opens with Arvo Pärt's music, built upon the strong principles of quiet presence, spirituality, and tintinnabuli style. We will hear, among others, Spiegel im Spiegel, Für Alina, and Fratres – works that have found their way not only to concert stages but also to countless films around the world.
The nature theme continues with compositions by Jan Kalliwoda, Toivo Kuula, Claude Debussy, and Alexander Glazunov. The works reveal the gentle silence of a summer night, the atmospheres of lakes and forests, and an impressionistic shimmer of light.
Intermission approx. 15 min.
Part II – literature, film, and spirituality
In the second part of the concert, Riitta Lampi will speak, telling about her sister Nun Kristoduli (1945-2020) – an esteemed spiritual teacher, translator, and writer. Lampi will also present excerpts from the interview documentary "Full of Culture - Memories of Sortavala" produced by Sortavala Society ry, which brings back memories of the landscape Kristoduli loved.
The concert culminates in works of domestic and spirituality: Paul Hindemith's Meditation, Liszt's Les cloches de Genève, Jean Sibelius's Religioso, and as a finale, Sari Blå's moving interpretation of Finlandia.
