main church - Church of the Transfiguration of Christ

The monastery's atmospheric main church is dedicated to the memory of the Transfiguration of Christ. Its temple feast, or praasniekka, is solemnly celebrated annually on the sixth day of August.

Designed by architect Ivan Kudryavtsev, the church, representing the North Russian stone church style, was consecrated on June 5, 1977. Similar single-domed, white brick churches can be seen, for example, in the Novgorod and Pskov regions.

Most of the main church's icons date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Older Valamo monastic artifacts do not exist, as fires and wars destroyed the monastery many times in previous centuries.

In addition to the icons, the church's magnificent 800-kilogram chandelier made of gilded bronze and a grandfather clock from the mid-19th century, whose ticking was previously heard in the altar of the lower church of Valamo on Lake Ladoga, also remind of Valamo on Lake Ladoga. The 14 bells in the bell tower also originate from Valamo on Lake Ladoga.

The main church entrance has a wheelchair ramp.
