Fundamentals of Orthodox Church Singing: Melodies of the Liturgy 8/2026

This course is intended for singers who wish to become acquainted with Orthodox church worship singing and learn the essential skills of Orthodox choir singing. The course will introduce the most important hymns of the liturgy and practice the basics of the eight-tone system (oktoechos). The teaching will also cover practical matters such as the use of liturgical books, acting in a choir, and the general features of the divine service order. The course is especially suitable for new, beginner church choir singers, but also for all others interested in Orthodox church singing. No prior experience is needed - basic singing skills, interest, and an open mind are enough! The teacher is Maria Mentu, M.Th., music pedagogue (UAS).
