On this course, we will explore the interface between icons and free art. We will hear an introduction by Alexander Wikström on what an icon is; what are the criteria that, regardless of painting style and technique, make an image an icon. How can elements of an icon be used in "free art"? During the days, there will be short lectures and discussions on selected topics and emerging questions. The inspiration for the painting work is an icon, which everyone freely chooses from the institute's image materials. The image created during the course can be an icon, if it fulfills its characteristic features, or a work inspired by an icon. On the course, you can work with your own familiar colors and tools. Other materials are suitable for working, except oil paints. It is also possible to use materials brought by the teacher, for which there is a separate fee (approx. 20-30 €) or to purchase materials from the institute. Please indicate when registering if you will be using the teacher's supplies. The instructors are visual artist (Master of Arts), visual expression teacher Kirsi Ryynänen and iconographer Alexander Wikström.

The Epassi mobile application can be used as a payment method on this course.

Teacher

Ryynänen Kirsi Ryynänen

Kirsi Ryynänen is a visual artist (Master of Culture and Arts) and a teacher of visual expression. Her own artistic work has been a part of Kirsi's life for almost 30 years. For Kirsi, image-making is not only a form of expression but also a way of seeing, experiencing, and illustrating what is meaningful. Through her company Piitta, Kirsi has organized visual expression trainings and courses for 15 years. She has had groups for individual course participants and for clients of numerous collaborating organizations, from social and health care associations to educational institutions. Central to her work is guiding participants to find their own unique way of expression and to strengthen their personal touch. This is liberating and produces experiences of success, as well as increasing self-awareness. You can see Kirsi's works and read more about her work on Piitta's website, www.piitta.fi
