The work Valamo Monastery's Treasures has been prepared for several years in cooperation with researchers from the Kuopio Orthodox Church Museum and the Andrei Rublev Museum in Moscow. This book is the most extensive factual work on Valamo's churches and art treasures to date. Some of the expert articles in the work cover themes that have rarely been researched before, such as the monastery's manuscripts, graphics and portrait collection, archive, and collection of architectural drawings. In addition, there are articles on the monastery's icons, sacred objects, church textiles, enamel and woodcarvings, landscape paintings, and the conservation of icon treasures.
The authors include Bishop Arseni, Professor of Art History Heikki Hanka, Art Historian Vladimir Petrov, Chief Conservator Helena Nikkanen, Researchers Svetlana Bolshakova, Marina Baslykova, and Zhanna Belik. The book features abundant and high-quality illustrations. The work is connected to the 70th anniversary of Valamo Monastery's operation in Heinävesi, which was celebrated at the monastery with many events during 2010.
