The course is suitable for icon painters, as well as for others interested in casein tempera painting, which has been used since ancient times (but is now somewhat forgotten). Casein is a strong protein binder in milk, present as a calcium salt, which is technically very durable. Casein-mixed pigment has been commonly used in Byzantine mural painting techniques, as well as in icon painting in Serbia. We prepare the casein paint ourselves from casein powder, water, and pigment, and it is suitable for virtually any painting surface. Its weather resistance is also excellent outdoors. Panels and materials can be purchased from the institute. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on the price of icon painting courses.
