Valamo Monastery Men's Choir School 11/2026

The course delves into the rich tradition of Orthodox church music under the direction of Archdeacon Jaakob, conductor of the monastery's festive choir. The goal is to learn how a group of singing people develops into a choir. The course includes intensive rehearsals and the opportunity to sing in Valamo Monastery's vigil and liturgy. The program may also include a concert. The Men's Choir School is intended for men aged 18–55 who can sing and have a good ear. (16–18-year-olds can participate if accompanied by an adult in Valamo). Previous experience with Orthodox church music is beneficial but not essential. The choir school consists of several courses, which will be organized three or four times a year on weekends in the future. In 2026, courses will be held on 6.–8.3., 5.–7.6., and 6.–8.11. You can participate in one weekend or deepen your learning with multiple courses. Applications for the course are submitted by filling out the application form from the college and by submitting an audio sample according to the instructions on the application form.
