This course is for you if you have mastered the basics of bobbin lace making, but want to deepen and expand your skills and learn new, inspiring techniques. In this course, we will explore bobbin lace techniques from different countries and create small lace works that reflect a global craft tradition. We will make, for example, the Slovenian Idrija and Schneeberg tape lace techniques, the captivating chrysanthemum lace, Russian Vologda tape lace, Bruges flower lace, and techniques from other countries. The course also gives you the opportunity to bring your work to life by creating canvas backgrounds for them using silk painting techniques. You do not need prior experience with this technique. This part of the course gives you the chance to express your creativity and make each of your lace works a unique piece. You can freely choose from different techniques and also make other laces if you wish. The laces can reflect festive themes such as Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter, or they can depict nature themes or animals.

If you wish, you can make lace on top of a ready-made photograph. For the course, you need to bring a possible frame for your works and an open and creative mind. Please contact the instructor if you have something specific in mind, tel. 040 5919149. The instructor is an experienced bobbin lace teacher, artisan, and restaurant entrepreneur in Lappila, Heli Rämö-Kaija.

The Epass mobile application can be used as a payment method for this course.

Teacher

Rämö-Kaija Heli Rämö-Kaija

I am Heli Rämö-Kaija, a bobbin lace teacher, artisan in instruction. My day job is assembling rifles. I graduated as an artisan from Kouvolan Seudun Ammattiopisto in 2019 and have taught bobbin lacemaking since then in several adult education centers. I enjoy many different crafts, knitting, weaving, and lacemaking, as well as various woodworking. In the summers, I cycle on many different personal treks, swim, and move in nature. In winter, I go ice swimming, ski, and downhill ski. I am easily enthusiastic about new things and gladly share this joy of handicrafts. The best part of teaching is when students learn new things even years after starting the hobby. In the course, students can create traditional works as well as items using techniques from different countries, anything they can imagine. Only imagination is the limit. You can see my own and my students' work on Instagram.
