Come and learn how to paint gentle faces! The course is intended for individuals who have completed Valamo Lay Academy's beginner course, or possess equivalent knowledge and skills. The student chooses and composes their icon subject with the assistance of the teacher, according to their accumulated painting experience. The instruction covers the stages of icon painting from researching the subject to preparing the drawing and varnishing (olifing) the finished icon. We will specifically practice the systematic brightening of faces and the construction of expression. The expression of the saint depicted in an icon is not accidental, but beautiful, peaceful, and inviting faces are constructed through certain compositional principles. In this age, where people are exhausted under the demands and burdens placed by others and themselves, no one would want to recite their evening prayers before a saint or Christ who looks dissatisfied or annoyed. The icon board and other tools and materials needed for the course can be purchased from the academy. Course instruction begins on April 16th; accommodation for the previous night is included in the course price, any meals on April 15th are paid at Trapesaan at normal prices. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting course fees. The teacher is icon restorer and painter Antti Narmala. The language of instruction is Finnish.

Epassi mobile application can be used as a payment method for this course.
