Icon Painting Advanced Course: Painting with Five Colors 6/2027

The course is suitable for those who have completed a basic icon painting course and those who have been practicing icon painting for a longer time. Modern icon painters have a vast number of color pigments to choose from, far more than in past centuries, and sometimes this can lead to excessive variegation in a finished icon. On this course, we will limit ourselves to using only five, or perhaps even just four, color pigments. A restricted palette creates peace and harmony. We will gain new insights into the rich possibilities of color mixtures. We will also prepare a local earth pigment, ‘Terra di Valamo’! The course instruction begins on June 3, with accommodation for the preceding night included in the course price; any meals on June 2 are paid at normal prices at Trapesa. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. The instructor is iconographer Alexander Wikström. The course is bilingual Finnish / Swedish.
