On the course, you will learn about historical long-stitch bindings and their basic techniques. Based on these, new, modern sewing methods will also be experimented with. The work involves playful experimentation with binding, materials, and colors, encouraging one's own creative expression. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have practiced bookbinding for a longer time. Basic course materials can be purchased from the institute or the instructor. Instructor: master bookbinder Claudia Wegmann. The language of instruction is Finnish.

The Epassi mobile application can be used as a payment method for this course.

Wegmann Claudia

I am Claudia Wegmann, a Swiss-born bookbinder from Kuopio, and I have my own bookbinding workshop. Bookbinding was initially a hobby for me, which soon turned into a passion and completely captivated me. It eventually led to a career change and a master's degree. Bookbinding has playfully been called the world's second oldest profession, and for that reason alone, it's important for me to share my professional skills with as many people as possible. I teach private students in my own studio, but I have also taught groups both in schools and privately. In teaching, I provide students with basic knowledge, but I always aim for students to find their own paths. Experimental bookbinding is close to my heart. I love the smell and feel of leather and paper, and I enjoy playing with colors and shapes. No matter how much the world changes, nothing can replace a well-made, hand-bound book. Bookbinding is my field and my mission.
