Valamo's Treasures - Guided Tour takes you deeper into the world of the monastery's material gifts. What is the story of the icon that led the monks to their new home in Heinävesi Papinniemi, and what does it look like? What was rescued from Laatokka Valamo? The valuable objects, clothes, and icons in the Monastery Museum hold meanings that may surprise you. The monastery's newest treasure is the cenotaph or memorial ark of the Venerable Sergius and Herman, brought to the winter church located in connection with the Main Church. This silver sacred object, made in 1823, was originally located in Laatokka Valamo on the very spot where, according to tradition, the founders of the monastery are buried. After various stages, the cenotaph returned 'home' in September 2025 and is now in its glory for all to admire.
