Valamo Treasures Guided Tour

The Valamo Treasures guided tour takes you deeper into the world of the monastery's material gifts. What is the story of the icon that led the monks to their new home in Papinniemi, Heinävesi, and what does it look like? What was saved from Valamo in Lake Ladoga? The valuable objects, clothing, and icons in the monastery museum contain meanings that may surprise you. The monastery's newest treasure is the cenotaph, or memorial chest, of the holy fathers Sergei and Herman, brought to the winter church attached to the main church. That silver, holy object, completed in 1823, was originally located in Valamo in Lake Ladoga on the site where, according to tradition, the founders of the monastery are buried. After various stages, the cenotaph returned "home" in September 2025 and is now available for everyone to admire in its glory.
