Icon Board Preparation 5/2027

The course is intended for those new to icon painting, those who have been painting for a longer time, and also for those who are only interested in preparing the bases. The prices of icon painting materials have risen sharply in recent years. The costs of acquiring bases and brushes can become an obstacle to the hobby of icon painting. The quality of the bases can also be variable despite the high price. On this course, we will delve into the process of making a durable icon board, from the selection of wood to the sanding of the finished priming. The topic is approached through material technology, history, and practical work. One icon board to be primed is reserved for each participant, and if desired, more can be brought from home. The material fee (€20) includes the rabbit skin glue and chalk powder needed for priming. The fabrics needed for priming should be brought from home. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting course fees. The teacher is icon restorer and painter Antti Narmala. The language of instruction is Finnish.
