The hands, feet, and angel wings of an icon are challenging to paint for many artists. On this course, you can focus on practicing painting them, relying on Byzantine models. We will practice drawing and painting proper feet, hands, and wings. The course is suitable for everyone interested in icon painting. We will prepare practice panels for color experiments. Through the exercises, your color perception, painting technique, and knowledge of pigments will also develop. This course is a continuation of previous summers' nature and clothing-themed technique courses. The course instruction begins on June 12, with accommodation for the preceding night included in the course price; any meals on June 11 are paid at normal prices at Trapesa. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. The instructor is icon painter Katariina Koskivaara-Ilmonen. The language of instruction is Finnish.

The Epass mobile application can be used as a payment method for this course.

Teacher

Koskivaara-Ilmonen Katarina

I am Katarina Koskivaara-Ilmonen, an icon painter, visual artist, and art pedagogue. I graduated with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Art and Design and have taught art throughout my career in various educational institutions, from adult education centers to universities. I have taught icon painting to young people and adults since 2016 at the Helsinki Orthodox Parish, and since 2022 also at Kalliolan opisto.

My passion in icon painting is drawing; I could do it every day and never get bored! The best part of teaching is when a student understands something and can then apply it to their work.

You can see my painted icons and other art on Instagram, the account name is ikonimaalari.
