Basic Icon Painting: Theotokos of the Intercession 6/2027

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn to paint an Orthodox icon using the traditional egg tempera technique. There's no need to be nervous on this course – no prior painting experience is required! We will paint a simple Icon of the Mother of God of the Supplication. We will proceed step by step from drawing the model and preparing the colors to painting and finishing the icon. At the same time, we will explore the theology of icons and the history of icon painting. Supplies and materials, such as the icon board, brushes, and pigments, can be purchased from the institute. The course instruction begins on June 21. Accommodation for the preceding night is included in the course price; any meals on June 20 are paid at normal prices at Trapesa. Please also note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. The instructor is icon painter Sofia Williams. The language of instruction is Finnish.
