Calligraphy Course for Icon Painters 7/2027

The course is suitable for beginners as well as for those who have been painting for a longer time. The text, the title of an icon, is not just information, but also part of the composition. On this course, we will delve into the basics of lettering. The course provides guidance on brush selection, color usage, “icon-like” font types, and text rhythm and composition. In icon theology, we will explore the narrative content of texts, their expression, and sometimes the difficulties of translating from “established icon languages” into Finnish. The course instruction begins on the morning of July 28, with accommodation for the preceding night included in the course price; any meals on July 27 are paid at normal prices at Trapesa. Please also note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. The instructor is iconographer Alexander Wikström. The language of instruction is Finnish.
