Beginner's Icon Painting Course: Christ Icon 7/2027

This course is intended for individuals who want to learn to paint an Orthodox icon using traditional techniques. On this course, you do not need any prior painting experience. We will paint a simple icon of Christ, limited to the shoulders. The instruction covers the stages of icon painting from preparing the drawing to grinding colors and painting work. We will also learn about applying olifa (varnishing) to the finished icon. You will receive the icon panel and model at the beginning of the course. Other tools and materials needed for the course can also be purchased from the institute. The course instruction begins on July 19, with accommodation for the preceding night included in the course price; any meals on July 18 are paid at normal prices at Trapesa. Please note that those under 35 years old receive a 40 percent discount on icon painting courses. The instructor is art teacher, icon painter Elina Oravala. The language of instruction is Finnish.
